“The Feather Round-Up”

Everyone who was looking for feathers gathered near my house. We all had our nets out, and were forming a plan on how we can find the feathers for Pavè.

“So… let me get this straight.” Isabelle said. “Mayor Nat and I are looking for blue and yellow feathers, respectively. Gala’s looking for pink, while Blaire is after the white ones.”

“I’m after purple ones, and Frobert is after green ones!” Rosie added. “And I think Butch is after red ones, silly…”

Butch nodded. “You bet! How do you think we should go after them, Nat?”

I pondered for a moment, but had an idea not soon after. “We should split up into groups. We can cover more ground, and the teams can work together on their colors.”

“I think you and I should team up, snortie.” Gala said. “But, if you want to work together with Isabelle…”

“I don’t mind either way, Mayor!” Isabelle said.

“Why don’t you team up with Blaire?” I suggested to Isabelle. “She’s a newer resident, so it would be nice for you two to get to know
each other.”

“Good point, nutlet.” Blaire stated.

“I’ll team up with Rosie, fribbit!” Frobert added. “I wanna learn some of her dance moves.”

“That leaves Gala and I with Nat, ROOOOOWF.” Butch said. “And with that, it looks like we’re settled!”

“Well, it won’t be if we’re not in agreement.” I said, putting my arm forward.

“Why are you holding out your hand like that?” Isabelle questioned.

“Where I used to live, this was a type of gesture my friends and I would do when we were working together.” I explained.

“Oh, I know this!” Frobert said, placing his hand over mine. “One of the sports teams I follow does this, too!”

Gala, Butch and Rosie followed suit, with Blaire not soon after. “Hey, this is actually kind of invigorating, nutlet!” She said.

Finally, Isabelle did the same. “Does this mean we’re ready, Mayor?”

I nodded. “Exactly. So that means…”

“…Let’s do this!” Frobert and I said in unison as we returned to our normal stances. We split up into our decided groups and headed out.

---

Butch, Gala and I decided to try searching the area near Town hall and Butch’s house. There was a nice grassy area that was left behind when the snow melted, so we thought it would be easier to spot our feathers from a distance. There was an occasional tree around, but there weren’t any fruits on them aside from the peach and cherry trees near the river.

“Wow, look at all of this confetti, snortie!” Gala said. “Even outside of the Plaza, it still feels like Festivale!”

“It definitely seems that way, Gala.” I replied. “There’s just so much energy!”

“Nat, there a blue feather to your left!” Butch called, reminding me of our goal.

I quickly whipped out my net and managed to snag it before it got stuck in one of the trees, but then noticed another feather. “Gala, behind you!”

She managed to react quickly for a pink feather. “Got it!”

“No! I missed this red one!” Butch said, chasing a feather himself.

I managed to intercept it and nab it for him. “Got you covered!”

“This is crazy!” Gala said. “What’s with all the feathers all of a sudden?”

“Maybe we chose too good of a spot…” Butch said. “I hope the others are having a better time than us keeping up!”

---

“You know, I always wondered something.” Blaire said as she and Isabelle headed near the Re-Tail area. “Nat seems very kindhearted, but does he really have a reason to, nutlet?”

“What do you mean by that?” Isabelle asked.

“Nothing in particular. I’m just a little bit curious.” Blaire replied.

“Well… I feel like he just wants everyone to be happy living here!” Isabelle said. “I mean, when Mr. Tortimer was around, he really didn’t do much outside of his mayoral duties. But I feel like Mayor Nat can do so much more than that!”

“You mean with all the times he helps around town?” Blare asked.

“Exactly!” Isabelle replied. “He may be different from us, but that doesn’t mean it has to be a bad thing, Blaire.”

Blaire chuckled sheepishly. “I take it your brother told you about that, huh?”

Isabelle nodded. “Don’t worry about it. I’m sure he was more concerned about someone staying up so late!”

“You’re probably right, nutlet.” Blaire admitted. “Maybe I was acting a bit too careless that night. I’ll be honest; I’ve never seen Nat ask for anything in return to begin with.”

“Hey, I think I see a white feather over there!” Isabelle said, motioning towards the cliffside. “Let’s nab it before it gets too far.”

---

Back near the Town Hall, things were getting pretty chaotic. We were finding more feathers than we could catch to the point where we had mine and Gala’s set. I caught a glimpse of what I thought was a rainbow feather before I was suddenly caught in Butch’s net.

“Hey! Let me out!” I said, trying to get it off my head.

“I missed!” Butch said before helping with the net.

Gala couldn’t help but let off a small laugh as she nabbed the last red feather we needed. “Take it easy, you two! This isn’t a competition.”

I finally got the net off my head as Butch apologized. “Sorry... I guess while I was trying to get that rainbow one, I ended up catching a ‘Nat’ instead!”

“Ok, you got me there…” I chuckled, catching the pun. “Did you see where it went?”

“I think it’s going toward your house, snortie!” Gala said. “Let’s hurry!”
